Questions
How is the readability score calculated?
It uses the Flesch Reading Ease formula, based on average sentence length and syllables per word. Higher is easier: 60 to 70 is plain English; most contracts score below 30.
Should every legal document be in plain English?
Clarity helps courts, clients and counterparties. Some terms of art must stay, but archaic words, doublets and very long sentences rarely add legal precision.
